Dr. Ferris-Metzger was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. She attended Birmingham-Southern College from 2008-2012 where she played on the softball team and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. In 2013, she began attending the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry and received her Doctor of Optometry degree in 2017.
Dr. Ferris-Metzger pursued a residency in Pediatric Optometry Specialty Care at Children’s Hospital Colorado in Aurora, CO from 2017-2018 and received her certificate of completion in 2018. She implemented the scleral contact lens fitting program at Children’s Hospital Colorado while in residency. Her areas of professional interest are pediatrics and specialty contact lenses for corneal diseases such as keratoconus and pellucid marginal degeneration.
She completed her fellowship requirements and became a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry in 2018. Dr. Ferris-Metzger is also a member of the American Optometric Association and Alabama Optometric Association.
Dr. Ferris-Metzger practiced in Denver, Colorado in both hospital and private practice settings after residency before moving to Mobile, Alabama and joining Vision Partners. She resides in the Midtown area of Mobile with her wife, two dogs, and one cat. Her hobbies include outdoor activities such as hiking and kayaking with her two dogs and gardening.
