Yaffa Weaver, MD

Yaffa Katherine Weaver, M.D. was born and raised in Princeton, New Jersey.
- She attended Duke University School of Engineering in Durham, North Carolina graduating summa cum laude with a dual major in Biomedical and Electrical Engineering.
- She then worked a year for General Electric on semi custom semiconductor chip design.

Following this, Dr. Weaver moved to Boston and enrolled in a unique program called Health Sciences and Technology, which is a collaborative effort of Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
- In addition to the usual medical studies, she spent an extra year at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary Laser Research Laboratory and performed experiments with a picosecond pulsed Nd:YAG laser.
- She graduated cum laude from Harvard Medical School in 1993.

A medical internship at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge Massachusetts was followed by a residency in ophthalmology at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami.
- During her three years at Bascom Palmer, Dr. Weaver continued some basic research with the YAG laser and also developed a special interest in the management of glaucoma.
- Several clinically relevant papers were published in the peer-reviewed literature following these investigations.
After completing her ophthalmology residency in 1997, she completed a one-year glaucoma fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Dr. Weaver was a full-time clinical assistant professor of ophthalmology at the University of South Alabama from 1998 until June of 2001 when she formed a private practice with four other Mobile eye care professionals.
She is Board Certified by The American Board of Ophthalmology
